Why do people write "the author" when the comment is clearly addressed to me?

And, well, yeah. You're right. But most of the readers I encounter are in either one of these situations, mainlining either business books or consumer fiction. I wanted to address them directly.

I don't think it's sexist to acknowledge the state of the world as it is. It's only sexist to say this is the way it should be, which is not what I think.

I could say more, but it's just a response, so I'll leave it at that.
